How the basic lock works
Locks are extremely simple creatures that, frankly, offer very little protection against those who understand how they work.
So before we can tackle the actual techniques of selecting locks, we must first understand what we are trying to achieve in the airlock – don’t worry, it will be fast!
This guide will cover the latch lock, which accounts for nearly 90% of the locks currently used in the world.

If you’ve ever seen a super spy select a lock in a movie, you might notice that they usually stick one tool into the lock and move, BOOM, the lock opens.
Although selecting locks is very simple and can be done very quickly on basic locks, movies do not do it fairly.
You will need two tools to select the lock: pickaxe (key) and tensioning key.
Block Pick: Pick allows us to lift the pins to the shear line, just like a key does. There are many different styles of locks that you can create with a bobby pin, but this guide will focus on choosing the style of the hook.
Tension wrench: This strange little tool is used to apply torque to the lock, just like a wrench. The purpose of this tool will be clarified when we proceed to the proper collection.
How to do it?
Open the bobby pin and bend it at a 90-degree angle. Unfold the wavy and straight ends of the bobby pin so that it bends in the middle and looks like L. This bobby pin will serve as the pickaxe you will use to unlock the door.
Remove the rubber tip from the straight end of the bobby pin. Using a knife or razor blade, remove the rounded rubber tip from the straight side of the bobby pin. This will be the end where you put the lock in to choose it.
Put the flat end of the pin to the top of the zipper and bend it. Paste the pin about 1 centimeter (0.39 inch), then fold the remaining bobby pin until it is flush with the surface of the door handle.
Bend the wavy end of the bobby pin in the handle for more control. Take the wavy end of the pickaxe and bend it at an angle of 30 degrees to create a handle. This step is not necessary, but it will make choosing a lock easier and more convenient for your hand. When you finish creating the handle, the selection process is completed.
Bend the tip of the next bobby pin to make the tension lever. Take a separate bobby pin and bend the upper 1/3 of the pin to form a hook. Do not extend the bobby peg on both sides, as with a pickaxe. Instead, bend both sides of the bobby pin in the same direction
